Cairo:

JTI (Japan Tobacco International) has been officially certified as a Top Employer in Egypt, demonstrating its status as a premier employer that puts people first. This recognition was confirmed during an awards ceremony held on October 12, 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ayman El Abbassi, JTI’s General Manager for Egypt, said: “We believe that our business performance is strongly linked to the quality of our people. Being a Top Employer will increase our ability to recruit and retain the best teams, giving us a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”

Akram Hebesha, JTI’s HR Director in Egypt, said: “We are delighted to have joined the ranks of the Top Employer family. This certification is a sign of JTI’s commitment to create a working environment in Egypt that is on par with the Company’s international standards. As a relatively new employer in North Africa’s most populous country, this status will help make us a first choice for new applicants and existing employees. The ability to attract and retain high-quality talent in Egypt will support JTI’s worldwide growth ambitions.”

JTI employs over 1,700 people in Egypt and considers each individual as an ‘investor’. It is therefore committed to providing a working environment that supports the wellbeing of its employees through safe working practices, learning and development opportunities, and fair compensation and benefits.

Six other JTI offices[1] in the Africa region were also certified, raising the Company to the ranks of Top Employer Africa for the first time this year.

The annual international research undertaken by the Top Employers Institute recognises leading employers around the world: those that provide excellent employee conditions, nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the organisation, and which strive to continuously optimise employment practices.

David Plink, CEO at Top Employers Institute, said: “Our extensive research concluded that JTI Egypt forms part of a select group of employers that advance employee conditions worldwide. Their people are well taken care of. Now that they have received the Top Employers Africa 2018 certification, they can truly consider themselves at the top of an exclusive group of the world’s best employers. Reason to celebrate!”
