Iraq has launched a project to reconstruct war-damaged roads and bridges in its Western Alanbar governorate, the official Alsabah newspaper said on Sunday.

The Construction and Housing Ministry has awarded several contracts for the execution of the project to rebuild key roads, bridges and causeways that have destroyed during internal hostilities over the past few years, the paper said, quoting the Ministry's road section manager Mahdi Abed.

"We have awarded contracts to some companies for road rehabilitation, mainly for the reconstruction of bridges, some of which have been completely destroyed...we hope these projects will be completed on schedule," Abed said.

He said the projects include the removal of debris and reconstruction work in Alanbar, Iraq's largest province, but he did not mention costs or the contractors involved.
