P2m Middle East, a German consulting company specialising in water and wastewater segment, has emerged as the lowest bidder for providing pre-contract consultancy services for designing Bahrain's Southwest STP (Sewage Treatment Plant).

P2m Middle East's bid of 379,600 Bahraini dinars was the lowest of the three bids received, followed by Stantec Khonji with 398,795 dinars and AECOM Middle East with 992,188 dinars.

The chosen consultant would identify the sewage needs of the southwest region of Bahrain, determine the capacity of the new STP, and design the STP after taking into account future trunk sewer and primary TSE [Treated Sewage Effluent] line, and flow discharge from nearby developments, a public notice published in November 2018 said.

In May 2013, news portal Trade Arabia had reported that Bahrain plans to spend $3.95 billion until 2030 on sanitation projects and provide sanitation connectivity to 100 percent of its population by 2020.
