MANAMA: A new lifeline has been extended to Bahrain’s tourism facilities with the government announcing a waiver on levy for three months from October.

Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority chief executive Nader Almoayyed last night revealed that the move aimed to reduce financial burden on the sector that has been hit hard by the pandemic.

It is understood that four- and five-star hotels have been notified. Mr Almoayyed said the efforts are in line with directives issued by His Majesty King Hamad urging national unity in battling the Covid-19 crisis.

The GDN reported in June that a special financial support package was launched for five sectors most affected by Covid-19.

They are the hospitality sector (including hotels and entertainment facilities), tourism sector (including travel agencies and pilgrimage operators), food and beverage sector (including restaurants, cafes and sheesha shops), sports and fitness sector and cinemas.
