UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, ABU DHABI: The first ever global annual legal conference of First Law International (FLI) in the Middle East concluded in early April at Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Authorities premises. The conference, which was inaugurated by the Guest of Honor, HH Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, Honorable Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance, saw attendance of over 100 legal experts from across the world, and was comprised of lively panel discussions, keynote speeches and delegate sessions on the global legal landscape.
Hosted by Goodwins Law Corporation, a premier law firm with offices in the UAE, Singapore and India, in partnership with First Law International (FLI), an elite global network of 85 law firms in 80 countries with 14,000 lawyers, the 2018 edition of the FLI Annual Conference held in Abu Dhabi provided a forum for cross-border dialogue, client interaction and business development connecting network partners and prominent businesses in the UAE. It also marked the first time in its history that the FLI has hosted its annual Conference in the Middle East.
During the two‐day conference, delegates were invited to hear a range of perspectives from prominent speakers, including breakout sessions on Media & Entertainment, Life Sciences, IT & Communication Technology and Corporate Governance / Compliance.
The Anti‐Corruption Compliance session included speakers from Solar Turbines, DHL Express, Stryker Services and Bray International, discussing the practical aspects of anti‐corruption policy and compliance, followed by an interactive Q & A session with the audience.
Guests also enjoyed engaging and thought-provoking discussions on the role played by women in business in the UAE from Ms. Huda Al Matroushi of Abu Dhabi Business Women’s Council and also learning about Legal Zoom Technology from John Suh, CEO of LegalZoom. The spiritual/motivational speech by His Holiness Sadhu Brahmavihari Das of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha on the topic “Peace & Harmony – Beyond Law” was well received by the delegates, and it gave a completely different perspective to professional ethics and service to humanity.
