Dubai, UAE: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, launched the upgradation project of its District Cooling Plant in Jumeirah Beach Residence, renovating its systems to the 2nd generation district cooling, which significantly saves power, improve efficiency and reduces carbon emission, making JBR the largest eco-friendly residential community in the world.
The JBR district cooling plant upgradation project is part of company’s strategy to modernise the district cooling infrastructure in its 79 plants, providing them with new generation systems. Constructed in 2005, the JBR district cooling plant has underwent a major renovation in 2015. The second renovation process will add 10,000 Refrigeration Ton (RT) capacity to the existing plant in order to meet the demand from new developments in the area, such as the One JBR Hotel, the Address Residences Jumeirah Resort and Spa and the neighbouring Blue Waters project.
The plant in JBR leverages the latest technologies in district cooling systems, including Thermal Energy Storage (TES) technology that monitor and adjust the water flow to and from the cooling plant and helps reducing the burden on the state power grid during peak hours.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: "Renovation process is part of a prescheduled plan to develop the infrastructure in all the plants of Empower across Dubai. Upgradation of JBR plant to the new generation technologies of district cooling will result in a number of benefits such as increasing the total capacity from 60,000 RT to 70,000 RT".
He stated that the application of the latest technologies in district cooling, particularly the use of the Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) and other technologies will help to achieve Dubai’s goal of having the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.
Empower provides district cooling services to over 1,180 buildings and 120,000 customers, with a total cooling capacity of 1,530,000 Refrigeration Tons (RT). Empower provides its environmentally friendly district cooling services to many landmark projects in Dubai, including Dubai Waterfront, Blue Waters, Jumeirah Group, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Design District and International Media Production Zone and many more.
