- 650 youth-age boys are participating in the Ministry of Education supported sessions -
- End-of-season Cricket Festival to be held Monday April 22nd at Sharjah Cricket Stadium -
UAE, Abu Dhabi: Emirates Cricket (ECB) continues to drive interest in the game with Emirati-youths through the ECB Pinsent Masons Emirati Development Program.
Supported by the Ministry of Education, the programme is currently being delivered in 9 local schools, across the UAE, and has reached 650 youth-aged boys.
“We are seeing Cricket being well received by the kids and the teachers alike.” said Andrew Russell, Emirates Cricket National Development Manager. “We have trained the Physical Education (PE) Teachers through the delivery of a ‘Level 1’ coaches course to 24 teachers in partnership with the ICC Academy. In addition to this, we have trained a further 40 teachers at their ‘Annual Teachers’ training event, held earlier this year”.
To provide an experience to further instill the skills of the game, UAE Cricket host an end-of-season Emirati Cricket Festival where this year’s festival will take place on the morning of April 22nd (Monday) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
“We are extremely grateful to receive approval from the Ministry of Education to conduct our Emirati Cricket Festival which will close out this current season.” added Russell. “We have extended an invitation to our schools currently involved in the program, as well as a special invitation to an additional 3 (Emirati) schools to participate and be exposed to our sport. This will see approximately 12 (local) schools involved in the festival, so we anticipate a full outfield of cricketing activities.”
Zayed Abbas, Emirates Cricket Board Member and Spokesperson added; “The Board is exceptionally encouraged with the interest in our game at the Emirati youth level, and we look forward to seeing a number of Emirati cricket players progress into the domestic and international scene in the future and as a result of this program. We extend our sincere thanks to the Ministry of Education, the participating schools, and to Pinsent Masons for their foresight and commitment to this program.”
