UAE National students studying in high schools, colleges and universities underwent the annual, month-long Bedaya Summer Programme hosted by DP World, UAE Region.

The trainees were selected for summer placement opportunities in various business units of DP World, UAE Region, in business disciplines including human resource management, engineering, operations, supply chain and logistics. The work experience programme includes monthly stipends and certificates on completion, in addition to weekly learning activities.

The objective of the programme is to provide the students with the opportunity to experience the DP World, UAE Region work environment and give them an insight into the different functions of the organisation.

The programme is built to encourage UAE nationals to explore the world of trade and logistics, the twin sectors that have played a pivotal role in enabling Dubai’s rise as the region’s gateway hub for trade and commerce.

This year, DP World, UAE Region experienced a growth of 50% in the number of Bedaya students, which was obtained through various channels and career fairs. Every year, DP World experiences a wonderful turnout for the Bedaya Summer Programme, which is an integral part of DP World’s various initiatives to support the UAE Government’s Emiratisation drive.

Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region said:

“We host the Bedaya Summer Programme in line with the UAE’s broader approach of investing in young Emiratis and enabling them to become future leaders. The programme aims to provide a good understanding of the work environment that will support the graduates in their future career aspirations. Beyond the prospect of working with DP World, UAE Region, we believe the activities, engagement programmes and work exposure opportunities we put them through will prepare these young men and women to reach their full potential.”

DP World, UAE Region has instituted a range of Emiratisation programmes connecting young Emiratis with the region’s leading businesses. The programmes focus on attracting, engaging, hiring and retaining the Emirati Talent to create a pool of UAE National future leaders through the right set of skills and leadership development.

These programmes include the Bedaya Summer Placement, Ta’heel Sponsorship, Internship, Tumoohi and Ruwad, in addition to the direct positions which help nurture Emirati talent in the trade and logistics industry.

The Bedaya Summer Programme began with a welcome ceremony in the presence of the DP World management team, followed by a number of informative workshops, and weekly engaging activities. The trainees went on exciting field trips, including a tour of Mina Rashid’s cruise terminals and upcoming marina projects.

To experience things from a customer perspective, they visited Agility Global Logistics and Freight Forwarding Services, an international logistics giant, to explore supply-chain smart technologies and the emerging tech-driven logistics services in the global economy.

Their other activities included a workshop on Positivity at Work, meeting with Ruwad trainees who shared their experiences, an inspirational session with DP World management in a casual artistic environment outside the office, and seeing Emirati engineers at work at Warner Bros. World. The Trainees concluded their journey by presenting their learning outcomes in front of the DP World management in the graduation ceremony.

A UAE National serves DP World, UAE Region for over 11 years on average. Currently, there are over 670 Emiratis employed in operations, engineering, commercial, and support functions at Jebel Ali Port, Jafza and other business units of the group.

DP World, UAE Region is a leading employer in the country with Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone accounting for 16.2 per cent of Dubai’s total workforce. Employees are twice as productive as the average employee in Dubai, contributing 33.4 per cent and 10.7 per cent to Dubai and the UAE’s GDP respectively.
