A number of pharmacies in Khor Fakkan selling fake sterilisers were shut down by the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD).

The department detected the violations during inspections and seized the counterfeit products from the market to preserve the health and safety of people.

The department stated that it will show no tolerance against violators, and monitor exploitation while preventing wrong practices in the emirate's markets. It pointed out that all establishments must adhere to the prescribed standards to stymie the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

SEDD stressed that it will continue to carry out the inspection campaigns in various cities and regions of the emirate of Sharjah to safeguard the fair economic practices, reduce commercial fraud and protect consumers, especially in such exceptional circumstances.

Khalfan Al Herathi, director of SEDD branches, said that the department will not tolerate those who cash in on the growing demand of certain products due to the coronavirus crisis. He added that SEDD will take necessary action against the unscrupulous elements and put an end to violations.

Al Herathi underlined the crucial role of the commercial officers in SEDD to control the markets and stop frauds through continuous inspections.

The department called on the public to report to it any fraud they encounter on call centre 80080000, or social media account Sharjaheconomic, or the consumer protection website www.shjconsumer.ae.
