Egypt - BLOM Bank Egypt suspended its operations at New Cairo branch, state-run Ahram Online reported, citing the bank’s May 10th statement.

The temporary shutdown came after a suspected COVID-19 case was detected among its staff in the branch.

The Lebanese-established bank has immediately disinfected the branch in the weekend after the case was reported on May 8th.

All employees working at BLOM Bank Egypt’s News Cairo branch will be tested for COVID-19.

The bank is redirecting its clients to the nearest branch in the area during the shutdown period.

BLOM Bank said it will further implement preventative measures while sterilizing all departments and branches amid the pandemic crisis.

Meanwhile, the bank’s managing director and CEO Mohamed OZALP told Ahl Masr News that BLOM Bank Egypt did not report any fatality from COVID-19. He noted that the spread news is “totally incorrect.”

In the meantime, Banque Misr and CIB Egypt have made wearing a face mask mandatory to enter their branches, in a move to flatten the spread of the virus.
