AMMAN – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), received in his office a delegation from the Public Security Directorate (PSD) representing the Criminal Information Department and the Cyber-Crimes Unit to discuss means of promoting the cooperation that had been initiated between the two parties for years .

During the meeting that took place upon an invitation from Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh as a part of his responsibility as Chairman of Network 11 (Digital Technologies for Sustainable Urbanization Network)-UNSDG 11; and as Chairman of the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) Dr. Abu Ghazaleh put all of TAG.Global’s resources at the disposal of the Public Security Directorate through those concerned with Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Cybersecurity and Intellectual Property (IP). As part of the arrangement TAG-Global will also receive support and guidance from the Directorate in the Cybersecurity and Intellectual Property area.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh highly commended the efforts of the Public Security Directorate, in particular the Cyber-Crimes Unit which constantly keeps pace with the latest advancement in the field, in addition to its quick-handling of different cybercrime cases. At the same time, he stressed the importance of Internet governance by developing a comprehensive national action plan and the enactment of deterrent cybercrime legislation.

Furthermore, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh affirmed that all the services and specialized training courses that TAG.Global conducts whether through Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University College for Innovation (TAGUCI) or Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Center (TAG-KC) are at the disposal of the Public Security Directorate to consolidate the cooperation between the two parties, and to complement TAG.Global’s role in serving different government institutions.

Col. Sahm Al Jamal, Communication and Information Technology Academy Commander at the PSD, called on all parties concerned with information technology and cybersecurity to draw up an action plan for drafting legislation that regulates the proper use of the Internet. He pointed out that the Public Security Directorate has established the Communications and Information

Technology Institute to train Public Security staff on the use of computer and its different programs to keep abreast of technological advancements, organize various courses and training seminars.

For his part Deputy Director of Criminal Information Department at the PSD, Col. Nayef Al Zyoud, praised the cooperation between TAG.Global and the Criminal Information Department in the field of training and building capacities especially in the area of Intellectual Property, calling for further cooperation between the two parties.

He also pointed out that the Ministry of Interior and Criminal Information Department are studying a draft proposal to amend the current Jordanian Cybercrime Law.

The Head of the Institutional Performance Development of PSD, Major Mahmoud El-Maghairah, pointed out that cooperation between the Criminal Information Department and TAG.Global has already been established in the field of Intellectual Property and training on Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International Diploma in IT Skills Certificate (TAG-DIT). He also welcomed collaboration with TAG.Global in holding advanced training courses for PSD staff working in the field of ICT. Accordingly, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed the readiness of TAG.Global to offer all its services and courses for the benefit of the Public Security cadres of all ranks.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, in his capacity as the founder and chairman of the UN Internet Governance Forum, recommended the establishment of a committee of specialists from the Jordanian Parliament of Jordan, the Senate, the security apparatus, judges, lawyers and specialists in the communication and information sector to launch the Jordanian Internet Governance Forum with the aim of reviewing and updating existing related legislation with specialists’ help.
