After the successful opening of the University of South Wales (USW) Dubai in September, admissions are now open for the University’s BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering top-up course, to be offered at its Dubai South campus from February 2019.

The internationally recognised degree allows professionals to convert technical training into a UK academic qualification in just one year full-time, through a block delivery top-up course. This block-mode format will enable practicing professionals to study whilst working.

Ideal for individuals who have already obtained an EASA certification, HND or other qualification, the programme builds on existing knowledge of aircraft maintenance to give official recognition of technical understanding and skills.

The course is recognised by aviation law, as detailed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and gives access to real aircraft experience.

Professor Julie Lydon, University of South Wales Vice-Chancellor, said: “The University has a reputation for innovative programme delivery that meets both the professional and personal needs of its students.  Our Aircraft Maintenance Engineering block mode top-up degree programme certainly achieves that by enabling students to further their studies whilst continuing to develop their careers in the workplace.  It’s a win-win for the employee and the employer.”

The purpose-built 3,000 square metre facility at Dubai South has state of the art learning and teaching space over two storeys, including an EASA/GCAA accredited workshop with an aircraft and CFM56-3 jet engine, mechanical principles laboratories and soundproofed maintenance areas. Dedicated laboratory space for practical tasks and avionics systems are also a key feature that will provide hands-on practical experience for students, and composite-based equipment to produce sample materials. The tooling has been provided through a strategic partnership with Snap-on Tools Industrial.

Potential students have the opportunity to tour the campus, speak to lecturers and find out more about funding, scholarships and the application process at the campus Open Days, to be held from Wednesday 12th – Friday 14th December 2018, and on Wednesday 9th January 2019.
