Leejam Sports Company (Fitness Time), Saudi Arabia’s largest health and fitness operator, is to close all of its gyms in the kingdom tonight (Thursday) in line with new government measures to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

In a statement to Tadawul today (Thursday), the company said the gyms would be closed for an extendable period of 10 days following the decision by the authorities of Saudi Arabia.

It has seen its share price fall by five percent today.

The statement said: “The company is in the process of evaluating the financial impact of the closure of its centers. Any further developments in this regard will be announced later.”

Leejam said it would continue to raise awareness of fitness and wellness and encourage exercise from home through various means of communication.

Saudi’s interior ministry has announced that cinemas, indoor entertainment centres, indoor games venues, gyms and sports centres will be closed for 10 days, while events including weddings and corporate events will be suspended for 30 days.
