MANAMA: Students returned to their classrooms yesterday for the start of an educational journey like never before.

They got back to their desks wearing masks and socially distanced from their friends, in clearly marked areas.

Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi paid inspection visits to a number of schools to ensure that all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 have been implemented.

The Education Ministry arranged a partial return to study in government schools although many parents appeared to prefer to keep their children at home.

The plan is to let students attend physically at schools two days a week, along with distance learning.

A medical team was formed in each school to receive students and check their temperatures before entering. They were also told to ensure social distancing by placing students in small groups or ‘bubbles’, and even determining paths to each class so that children enter directly from the gate into their classroom.

Students have to leave in batches.

Lectures were held to promote awareness while disinfection and sterilisation processes were carried out around all facilities. The minister reviewed the progress of the educational process in a number of classes, including those for children with special needs.
