Italian athlete Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus, the Juventus Football Club has confirmed.

“The footballer, Daniele Rugani, has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” the club said in a statement.

“Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including those who have had contact with him,” the club added.

Juventus had a training session on Wednesday, but the club said that the athlete’s teammate, five-time world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo did not take part, as he is in Portugal and will remain there, “awaiting developments related to the current health emergency.” A source close to Juventus told Reuters that the players will now be isolated and put into quarantine for two weeks.

The Italian government had suspended earlier this week all sporting events across the country, including Serie A football matches.
