Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national carrier, and the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) have raised $91,904.16 (BD34,555.96) since the launch of the passenger donations project.

Launched in September 2018 by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister and Gulf Air board of directors chairman Zayed Alzayani, and RCO secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed, the initiative allowed passengers to donate coins or notes of any currency aboard Gulf Air flights.

This ongoing initiative is aimed at activating social responsibility and allowing passengers to take part in and contribute to charitable work, including supporting university students who are struggling with their tuition fees.

“This is a great achievement for Gulf Air and the Royal Charity Organisation. Having such a mechanism to allow passengers to donate their excess coins and notes when returning from their holidays and business trips indeed boosts the principles of social responsibility of both organisations,” said Mr Alzayani.

“Today, we have collected $91,904.16; money that will be managed by RCO and invested in charity projects in Bahrain to support those in need.

“I thank RCO for their outstanding role in giving back to the community and in managing humanitarian activities, particularly for Bahraini orphans.”

He also praised the role of passengers being the core of the project’s success through their donations.

Dr Al Sayed praised the efforts of Gulf Air towards this humanitarian project, stating that the RCO thanked the ministry and Mr Alzayani for supporting charitable and humanitarian work in Bahrain.
