Dubai and Sharjah set for Ramadan tournaments

With Ramadan having commenced, cricketers will soon be playing in Ramadan cricket tournaments past midnight every day in Dubai and Sharjah.

Dubai: With Ramadan having commenced, cricketers will soon be playing in Ramadan cricket tournaments past midnight every day in Dubai and Sharjah.

In Sharjah, the 27th edition of the Sharjah Cricket Council’s Ramadan tournament commenced yesterday at the Sharjah Stadium with a late match between New Medical Centre (NMC) and Radio 4.

Dubai’s Ramadan tournament is being staged by Dulsco under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council and Dubai Sports Council and will commence from June 10.

Speaking to Gulf News, Shaik Rafik, manager, Welfare and Sports of Dulsco, said: “We are proud to be hosting Dubai’s Ramadan tournament. For 15 consecutive years we have staged this tournament and this year, too, our event will be held without a break. Ten teams from all over UAE will be competing for the next 23 days and it will be an intense cricket contest at the Zabeel Park cricket ground.”

The inaugural match will be played between last year winners Global IT Distribution and Emrill Cricket Club. The final is scheduled for July 2. Multiplex International LLC will be supporting this tournament with all the Man of Match prizes for all the matches including Best Player, Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the Tournament prizes.

The participating teams in Dulsco tournament are Group A: Global IT Distribution, Emrill CC, Advantage Motor LLC, Amity Gladiators and Old School Boys. Group B: Multiplex International, Dulsco, Hyper Tech Holograms, G. Force Cricket Academy and Medeor 24X7 Hospital.

In the Sharjah Ramadan tournament, 16 top teams will be contesting. In Group A are NMC, Red Flower Tourism, Old School boys, Radio 4. The Group B is made up of UBL, NTDE, Sewa Smile CC, Khaleej Times. Group C will comprise Alubond Tigers, Fly Emirates, Dubai Hawks and Unicon Real Estate. Group D will be made up of Multiplex International, Saudi Falcons, Bukhatir XI and Ramada Ajman.

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium will be hosting two matches with first match commencing at 8pm and second match from 10.30pm.
