RIYADH — New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia fell below the 1,000-mark on Thursday for the first time in two months, with 986 new infections recorded over the past 24 months.

On June 6 this year, the Ministry of Health recorded 984 new COVID-19 infections.

According to the ministry, 13 more people died due to complications caused by the virus over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 530,981 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,297.

According to the ministry, a total of 1,055 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 512,373.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 189, followed by the Riyadh region with 162, the Eastern region with 169, and the Jazan region with 101 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with none of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 10,311 active cases and 1,424 of them were in critical condition.
