New strategies urged to tackle cybercrime in Bahrain

The Interior Minister yesterday called for new strategies and specialised training programmes to deter growing cyber threats.

He asserted that protection of information security is a major challenge that should be seriously tackled – especially with the rise in cybercrimes.

He called for exchange of expertise and successful experiences in cybersecurity, and adoption of modern methods to fight digital crimes.

Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa was speaking at the second Information Security Forum Thiqa (Trust) yesterday.

Organised by the Information and eGovernment Authority, the event was held at the Public Security Officers Club.

Ministers and senior government officials attended.

Gen Shaikh Rashid highlighted the need for specialised training to safeguard communication and information technology systems.

He thanked the Information and eGovernment Authority and Thiqa team for organising the event.

The minister honoured 14 government organisations accredited as part of the Thiqa programme for fulfilling its advanced, innovative and excellence levels.

The General Directorate of the Interior’s Ministry Court and Bahrain Stock Exchange were honoured for achieving the ‘excellence level’.

Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Planning and Organisation, Foreign Ministry, Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry, General Organisation for Social Insurance, Education and Training Quality Authority and Bahrain University were honoured for fulfilling the criteria of the ‘advanced level’.

The Education Ministry, the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, the Supreme Judicial Council, Interior Ministry Human Resources Directorate, the Shura Council and the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission were honoured for fulfilling the criteria of the ‘innovative’ level.
