KUWAIT - Kuwait Health Ministry signed on Monday memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a non-profit organization that works on barcodes, namely GS1 f, a project to monitor drug and medical consumables through a barcode to ensure its safe use and patient safety.

In a press statement, Assistant Undersecretary for Food and Drug Control at the Ministry of Health Dr Abdullah Al-Bader said the system signed by the non-profit GS-1 Foundation is working on tracking medicines and medical supplies accurately through barcode from the manufacturer through the stores and pharmacies until it reach the patient.

He said that the system aimed at combating counterfeit medicines, and facilitates drugs withdrawal when needed.

The system will also ensure quality, safety and security through traceability, and reduce costs by eliminating errors and administrative costs, he added. (end) mak.haq
