AMMAN The Cabinet on Monday decided to refer employees subject to the Civil Retirement Law and with more than 30 years of service to retirement before June 30.

The decision, made during a Cabinet session, will grant those referred special privileges, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Cabinets decision will also allow employees under the age of 60, who have served 25 years if male and 20 if female, to receive the same privileges if they apply to be referred to retirement before September 1.

Labour Minister Nidal Bataineh said that the decision was made upon recommendations from the Civil Service Council (CSC).

The Cabinets decision aims at reducing the number of employees in the public sector and providing youth with the chance to participate in public service in accordance with a government strategy that takes into consideration the social and economic conditions of society, stressed Bataineh, who is also chairman of the CSC.
