ArabFinance: The total number of malware infections in 2020 increased by 21% on an annual basis, Daily News cited a Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) statistics on digital security threats.

Egypt registered an 8% rise in threats targeting cryptocurrency mining, while the global trend saw a decline of 24%.

Threats took place through attachments and malicious links placed in emails and downloadable malware. This could lead a device to slow down or stop working. Malware can delete or steal data, putting users privacy at risk.

Statistics showed a 16% decrease in banking Trojan attacks in Egypt last year, despite a global increase of 29%.

Egypt, unlike other major countries in the region, showed the largest decline in banking trojans, indicating concern for striving to improve the digital security landscape in the country, the news portal quoted Maher Yamout, a senior security researcher in Kasperskys global research and analysis team, as saying.

Cloud computing and cybersecurity services, meanwhile, are expected to top the digital businesses in the coming period, according to an Everest Group report.

Egypts Information Technology Industry Development Agency earlier said the information and communications technology sector in the country demonstrated resilient performance during the outbreak of the COVID-19.
