Cairo –   The Egyptian minister of transport Kamel El-Wazir has inaugurated Heliopolis metro station, the largest in the Middle East, on the fourth phase of the third metro line on Sunday.

At a cost of EGP 1.9 billion totally financed by the state treasury, the new metro station is built on 10,000 square metres (sqm) with tunnels running for 225 metres at a width of 22 sqm and a depth of 25 metres, El-Wazir said in a statement.

The minister also revealed that the fourth phase of the third line will be complete by April 2020, noting that El-Nozha and Hisham Barakat stations will be opened in December.

The total cost of the third line stands at EGP 97 billion, including EGP 16.202 billion for the fourth phase.

The country also considers adding three stations between Adly Mansour and Cairo Airport stations at a cost of 1.5 billion.
