Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced the conversion of about 17,000 vehicles from gasoline to bi-fuel (natural gas and gasoline) operation from July to October.

During the four-month period, nearly 192 million cubic metres of natural gas have been sold to bi-fuel cars, according to a statement on Thursday.

Natural gas fuelling companies are implementing a programme to set up natural gas fuelling stations across all governorates in Egypt.

Two new stations have been opened in September and another two will be inaugurated in November.

In addition, another four stations will come into service by the beginning of 2020.

The Egyptian government has set a plan to convert about 147,000 new taxicabs to operate on natural gas, in addition to establishing 366 natural gas fuelling stations over a period of three years starting from January 2020.

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) signed an EGP 80 million deal with Car Gas and the Egyptian International Gas Technology Company (Gastec) as part of its EGP 1.2 billion plan to convert vehicles to operate on natural gas.

Moreover, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) allocated EGP 6.7 billion to finance the establishment of natural gas fuelling stations.
