BERLIN - The German Finance Agency said it was increasing the amount of debt it was issuing in the second quarter by 43 billion euros to 130.5 billion euros to help finance the cost of government programmes tackling the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

"The aid programme in the government's package of measures to manage the coronavirus pandemic has been quick and effective," the agency said in a statement on Tuesday. "The Federal Government's financing and liquidity needs for the current quarter and the rest of the year will rise."

It said there was still considerable uncertainty about how debt issuance for the second half would develop.
