MANAMA: Black-tipped sharks, nurse sharks, stingrays and a range of smaller tropical fish as well as marine life found in the Arabian Sea will be star attractions at the Bahrain Aquarium in Mall of Dilmunia, it has emerged.
The 16-metre-tall aquarium towers through all four floors of the mall and will be one of the main family entertainment features.
Each level of the cylindrically-shaped structure will exhibit different species of marine-life based on the depths of their natural ecosystem.
The second floor of the aquarium extends out into a petting zoo where visitors can interact with and feed the different types of fish.
The facility will contain some 700,000 litres of water and also include coral and rocky reefs.
It is being developed by Irish firm ELSS Engineering, a specialist in large-scale aquarium design, installation and management, under a multi-million-dollar contract, as reported by GDN earlier.
“With a number of successful projects in their portfolio and their in-house expertise in this field, ELSS is the ideal collaborator to make the Bahrain Aquarium a one of a kind addition to the number of facilities and entertainment centres that the mall has to offer,” said Mall of Dilmunia Development chief executive Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa.
“The aquarium will also become an immersive educational experience that will allow students from schools across the country to visit, explore and learn more about the different species and sea-life the aquarium will inhibit, through a first-hand encounter with them.”
The mall is set to open this October.
