A new social centre aimed at providing programmes and training is set to open in Budaiya.The BD1.4 million Alba Social Centre is expected to provide skills update in handicraft, ceramics, agriculture, sewing, hairdressing and make-up to different age groups.

It will also provide child, family and elderly care services to Budaiya as well as the nearby villages of Diraz, Bani Jamra, Saar, Karranah, Abu Saiba, Al Markh, Shakhoura, Sadad and Al Qadam.Works Minister Ebrahim Al Hawaj and Social Development Minister Osama Al Asfoor yesterday inspected the progress of work on the centre ahead of it being handed over to the Social Development Ministry.The centre will also assist individuals and families with low or limited income by encouraging them to establish their own projects.It will serve as an employment centre and offer services such as family counselling, and will feature a social assistance department and a club for the elderly.

“The centre will provide an appropriate environment to provide welfare, social development and other services to many people in the area,” said Mr Al Hawaj.“It comes within our framework of continuous interest in various projects across the country.He reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to support all government agencies in implementing their plans and programmes.The building consists of three floors and includes a main hall that can accommodate 200 people, and several training halls to provide an appropriate environment for welfare and social development support, as well as ease of access to the facilities and services.

“The Social Development Ministry is closely following and monitoring the progress of the centre to ensure that all social initiatives are in accordance with our priorities and goals,” said Mr Al Asfoor.He thanked Alba for donating and funding the majority of the cost of the centre.
