Young Bahrainis will have an opportunity to work with startups in one of the most robust technology ecosystems in the world, as a result of a memorandum of understanding signed last night between Tamkeen Bahrain and Start-Up National Central (SUNC).

This was revealed on the sidelines of the launch of the first-ever ‘Connect 2 Innovate’ business leaders conference being held in co-operation with the Industry and Commerce Ministry and Bahrain Economic Development Board.

The event was organised by SUNC, a non-profit organisation connecting stakeholders with the Israeli innovation ecosystem, and is taking place at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Bahrain Bay.

Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro highlighted that Bahrain today represents a prominent investment centre, while Israel is known for its research and development of modern technology.

“By combining both our strengths, we have the ability to transform the region and work together to meet today’s challenges and build a bright future for all,” he added.

“This event will address challenges facing financial technology, manufacture, logistics, water, energy, and climate sectors and identify new growth opportunities.”

The conference will include workshops on building the technological ecosystem and developing human capital, enabling the two countries to exchange knowledge and best practices, through the participation of a visiting delegation of more than 50 government officials, businessmen and investors.

Today’s agenda is divided into fintech and supply chain tracks, each of which will include panel discussions, networking and startup pitches.

Tomorrow, water as well as climate and energy will be the two major topics of discussion at the centre of presentations, discussions and networking.

“I am confident that the technological tools and products developed by Israeli startup companies will bring great benefit to the Bahraini economy and vice versa”, said Bahraini Ambassador to Israel Khalid Yusuf Ahmed Al Jalahma.

On the sidelines, SUNC announced that it had set up business-to-business meetings to help some of their start-ups find local partners.

Keynote speakers at the opening included EDB chief executive Khalid Humaidan, US Ambassador to Bahrain Steven Bondy and Israeli Ambassador to Bahrain Eitan Na’eh.
