MUSCAT: Salalah Free Zone will celebrate on Wednesday, January 25, the official launch of Philex Pharmaceutical Industries’ factory under the auspices of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health.

The factory marks the latest project of its kind in the field of pharmaceutical industries in the Sultanate of Oman, serving to place Salalah Free Zone as a regional centre for the pharmaceutical and biological industries.

The $150-million project is developed over 3 phases that include the establishment of an advanced factory for pharmaceutical products and a research and development centre. Further, Philex Pharmaceutical Industries Company is planning to produce more than 100 pharmaceuticals, including various types of medicines in the current phase. However, at a later stage, the factory will produce vaccines with a production capacity of one billion tablets and one billion capsules annually as a first phase.

The factory is currently attracting local and international opportunities with its operational plans. Therefore, its products are being promoted in various potential markets like the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar and a number of other countries in the region. On the other hand, the factory was built with high international specifications and standards, which qualify it to compete in the global markets.
