Iraq’s Ministry of Planning has announced that plans are at an advanced stage to resume constriction of three stalled hospital projects in the Basra governorate in south Iraq.

Abdel Zahra Al-Hindawi, a spokesperson for the ministry, told Zawya Projects that the projects are Al-Haritha Hospital (100 beds), Safwan General Hospital (100 beds) and Al -Zubair Hospital (200 beds).

He said the Ministry hopes open the Al-Harrtha Hospital by the end of 2023.

Al -Hindawi added that Ministry deputed follow-up teams to the projects sites to understand the latest status, obstacles to completion and the measures necessary to address these obstacles.

Al-Haritha Hospital is being developed at a cost of approximately 45 billion Iraqi dinars ($30.8) million by the Ministry of Health. The project, spread over a land area of 12 acres, is 70 percent complete. The hospital consists of five buildings of four storeys each, in addition to a three -storey residential building for doctors.

Safwan General Hospital, which is spread over a land area of 70,000 square metres, is 50 percent complete. It comprises of a four-storey main hospital building, and three-storey buildings for Emergency, Diagnosis, Surgery, and Doctors' Residence.

Al -Zubair Hospital, spread over an area of 37 acres, is 73 percent complete. It includes a four-storey main building, two residential buildings for doctors, service building, a helipad. The cost of project is approximately IQD 70 billion ($47.9) million.
