13th PMI-AGC International Conference provides dedicated platform to address project management challenges across the GCC

Project management has emerged as one of the most critical areas of expertise in the GCC in light of the wide-ranging, high-value development initiatives being pursued all over the region, industry analysts have revealed. The collective value of the GCC's 100 largest projects currently underway or completed in the last two years has already been projected to reach over USD 1.3 trillion, according to MEED, with USD 49 billion worth of contracts awarded in the first half of 2010 alone.

Serving as a centralised platform to interact, share experiences, improve knowledge and showcase the latest projects and best practices of project management professionals in the GCC, the 13th Project Management Institute-Arabian Gulf Chapter (PMI-AGC) International Conference will be held from January 24 to 26, 2011 at the Gulf Hotel in the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain. Many project management practitioners, engineers, planners, academicians and management executives from the UAE have already confirmed participation at the event, which underlines the growing need for a dedicated professional networking event catering to the project management sector.

The theme of the upcoming conference "Delivering Value and productivity through Project Management: Lessons Learned from the Boom and Bust Cycles", has been chosen to emphasize the importance of lessons learned from boom and bust cycles to enhance the value of projects through adopting innovative and collaborative approaches.

Mohammed Hammad, PMI AGC President, said: "In light of the accelerated pace of urban development all over the GCC, particularly here in the UAE, it is critically important to remember that the success of any project being undertaken is greatly influenced by the professional expertise of the project management team. Decisions involving risks, prioritising and selecting investments are among important areas of concern of the project management team, and these decisions are usually critical to the success of the project. The PMI-AGC International Conference has been organised specifically to cater to the otherwise underserved needs of project management professionals in terms of networking, benchmarking and sharing of best practices."

A special ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE on December 09, 2010 was organised for the UAE launch of the 13th PMI-AGC International Conference and to discuss pertinent details about the event. Mohammed Hammad, the PMI AGC President, attended the UAE launch ceremony along with Salah Jebara Al Bufalah, PMI AGC UAE President, and Dr. Firas Abouzaki, PMI AGC Senior Vice President.

Aside from the construction industry, the 13th PMI-AGC International Conference also targets project management practitioners from other sectors such as banking, telecommunication, finance and IT. The Conference will also focus on environmental, leadership and human dimensions of project management.

Last year's 12th PMI-AGC International Conference was held under the theme "Dawn of a New Era: Paradigm Shift in Project Management," where participants discussed how to manage projects in the current economic environment. The conference served as a forum for more than 1,500 industry leaders, project management practitioners, engineers, planners, academicians and managers interacted, shared their experiences, improved their knowledge and showcased their projects and best practices.
