The unfinished global war against cancer of all forms has received a major boost from UAE-based Merint Group, which has played a defining role in setting up India’s biggest cyclotron facility. This state-of-the-art facility will now begin to produce radioisotopes that are vital for diagnosis of the affliction and used in the destruction of cancer cells to facilitate remission.

With the unit now operational, India proudly joins an elite global club by becoming only the fifth nation with superconducting medical cyclotron facilities.

The Cyclone-30 machine situated at the Kolkata-based Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, is activated under the aegis of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).  Even as it has gone on stream it will commence regular production by mid-2019.  Its commissioning is a tribute to India scientific knowhow and acumen.

Merint’s specialized contracting arm, based in India, has constructed the entire building facility, including the housing for the sensitive Cyclone 30 system, to protect against nuclear radiation. This highly sophisticated linear accelerator machine designed and manufactured by IBA-Belgium and hot cells / dispensing systems by COMECER Italy demands a very exacting protocol for its placement and the casing around it.

Commenting on this awesome responsibility and being placed on this exclusive nuclear medicine list, Fazal Manekia, founder and CEO, Merint, said, “it is a major milestone for our company to be such an integral part of what is such a defining moment in India’s history. We have always striven for excellence and chosen the less used path to reach new frontiers and this is an exceptional achievement.”

He added that it was a proud moment for his UAE based company and reiterated it as another example of the swiftly growing co-operation between the two countries. “Whether it is our premium real estate portfolio in India or Europe, designed with the discerning Dubai resident in mind or our strong partnerships with the best in the business, we have always worn our ‘UAE tag’ with pride.”
