Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - The Petroleum Institute (PI) announced today its adoption of the Integrated Production Modelling (IPM) software package from Petroleum Experts for the instruction of students in Petroleum Engineering. The IPM software allows the design and simulation of oil or gas production systems, including the reservoir, wells and the surface network. This software implementation is in line with PI’s vision of making innovation the fabric of the educational experience for students at PI.
IPM is developed by the Petroleum Experts (PETEX), a leading engineering company that specializes in petroleum engineering software tools that are implemented in excellent universities around the world, including PI. The software will enable the PI students to gain experience in applying theoretical and practical understanding to complex engineering challenges.
“Adopting IPM in our programs reflects our commitment to proving the very best learning environment to our students. The competitiveness and the complexity of the industry nowadays requires innovative engineers who are capable of addressing complex challenges in a smart, timely and cost-effective manner. At PI, we are dedicated to graduating world-class engineers who are armed with the best-in-class innovations, have an entrepreneurial mindset, and possess a professional technical skillset,” said Dr. Murray Gray, PI Senior Vice President and Provost.
The software is also deployed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) subsidiaries and major international oil companies. The IPM suite of tools allows fully integrated field modelling and production optimization, allowing engineers to model the reservoir(s), the production and injection wells, and the surface gathering system to provide production forecasts.
About the Petroleum Institute:
The Petroleum Institute University and Research Center was established by Emiri Decree in Abu Dhabi in 2001 and has quickly become a world leader in hydrocarbon engineering education and research. The PI currently enrolls over 2,000 students at the baccalaureate and master’s level and employs some 200 faculty members. The PI enjoys the financial support of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the sponsorship of four major international oil companies: BP; Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO); Shell; and Total. The PI collaborates with nearly thirty leading universities world-wide in research, student and faculty exchanges, internship opportunities, and co- and extra-curricular activities. The PI campus has state-of-the-art instructional laboratories and classroom facilities and is preparing this year to open a major new research center housing 8,000 square meters of hi-tech lab space, the Petroleum Institute Research Center (PIRC).
