Leading hospital demonstrates that advanced healthcare technology has significant impact on quality of care

Dubai, UAE - Tawam Hospital, the region's leading medical institution in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced today that the hospital has become a regional reference site for the company,. The agreement was signed at Arab Health 2008.  The largest hospital in Al Ain has implemented one of the most advanced Patient Data Management Systems in the world. Using Philips' Intellivue Clinical Information Portfolio CC Clinical Information System, patient data is collected from life support equipment and centrally stored online, providing clinical staff with instant access to the information from anywhere in the hospital.

Michael E. Heindel, CEO of Tawam Hospital, said: "At Tawam Hospital, we pride ourselves on providing our services with only the very best and most advanced technology systems. We are delighted and proud to be partnering with Philips and to become a regional reference site to this esteemed company. This paperless system will facilitate and ease the administrative process within the hospital and is in line with our aim to provide the best healthcare facilities to the citizens of the UAE."

"With the Philips solution we're able to view critical patient information from wherever we are in the hospital, whenever we need it," said Said Abuhasna, Chairman of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Tawam Hospital. "It has had a significant positive impact on the way we evaluate and treat patients, and we are proud that our hospital will become a showcase for delivering the best quality of patient care," he added.

This sophisticated solution operates across the hospital's highly dependent pediatric, ICU and neonatal ICU wards. It also includes Philips Clinical Decision Support, an intelligent software application that recognizes the symptoms of Sepsis and provides a new line of defense against the condition. The successful installation is a result of close collaboration between Tawam Hospital, Philips Healthcare and its distributor in the region, Emitac.

The Philips Intellivue Clinical Information System supports the reporting and monitoring requirements set out by the Joint Commission International Hospital Accreditation, the largest accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States. The scheme, which already accredits Tawam Hospital, ensures the automatic compiling of reports and subsequent continuous improvement processes take place.
