Company was global market leader in unit shipments and factory revenue throughout 2005
Dubai - April 25th 2006: SonicWALL, Inc. today announced it has maintained its leadership position for the fourth consecutive quarter in Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances worldwide. In the fourth quarter of 2005, SonicWALL was the overall leader in UTM in both unit shipments and factory revenue, according to results released by IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice, in its Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, March 2006.
"With the number of network attacks averaging hundreds of thousands per hour and rising, static technology can't provide adequate security," said Antony Chapman, senior director, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa at SonicWALL "We have engineered our entire range of firewalls, from entry level upwards, to make UTM protection available as widely as possible and enable companies of all sizes to do business securely."
IDC defines UTM security appliance products as those that integrate multiple security features within one box, including network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway anti-virus. SonicWALL, which integrated UTM capabilities into its entire product line at the end of 2004, was ranked the leading global vendor amidst a crowded market and with a number of new players in the category.
"IDC's report illustrates the changing face of network security and the growing sophistication among end users and their resellers about how to deal with Internet threats," he continued. "We are very pleased that SonicWALL has been at the forefront of delivering UTM technology and that our leadership in this space has been sustained over four successive quarters, as measured by IDC."
