Sharjah, United Arab Emirates: The region’s first and only dedicated performing arts academy, Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA), is opening doors for Middle Eastern theatre talent as it hosts its first open day of the year on Tuesday 11 February from 4-8pm.

The open day coincides with the Academy’s local and regional auditions and interviews for entry into its 2020 undergraduate programmes which begin on Wednesday 12th January.

As a centre of excellence in higher education, SPAA’s open day will give attendees the opportunity to take a tour of this world-class conservatoire, chat with current students about their SPAA experiences, and meet the dynamic team of educators who are teaching and preparing SPAA graduates for the professional performing arts industry.

Candidates attending SPAA auditions and interviews for entry into its full time BA programmes, will spend the audition/interview day working with theatre professionals from around the world, including SPAA’s Executive Director, Professor Peter Barlow. SPAA’s next auditions and interviews day is scheduled to take place at the Academy on Wednesday 12th February.

Both events will offer further information about the highly coveted, full four-year scholarship opportunities that are available to eligible students from the Arab world thanks to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah.

Budding talent can sign up to audition for the BA Acting and BA Musical Theatre programmes, or schedule an interview for the BA Production Arts programme, through SPAA’s Application Management System which can be found through the following link https://ams.spaa.ae.

Professor Peter Barlow commented: Thanks to the generosity of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, our outstanding new Academy comes with a number of unmissable full scholarship opportunities for eligible students. There’s never been a more exciting time to make your dreams a reality and study performing arts in the Middle East. Theatre brings us together; we cross cultural boundaries and break down the barriers that prevent peace and harmony. Students of Sharjah Performing Arts Academy will be trained by the best educators and practitioners in the industry, and have the opportunity to thrive with a career in the world of performing arts.”

After taking on its first cohort of students in September 2019, SPAA has quickly become a leader for performing arts in the region. SPAA’s state-of-the-art facilities and robust curriculum give students the opportunity to study and hone their craft locally, but with a global perspective when it comes to their post graduate careers.

Situated in the vibrant, intellectual hub of Sharjah’s University City, SPAA offers four-year, full time Bachelor degree programmes in Acting, Production Arts, and Musical Theatre. The brand new, purpose-built academy includes a 432-seat theatre; 126-seat studio theatre; backstage rehearsal hall; 12 studios for dance, voice and acting classes; 12 studios dedicated to singing and sound recording; green screen TV studio; costume and design spaces; carpentry and set building workshops, as well as a gymnasium, cafe, breakout areas for study and an exhibition gallery.
