The Public Transport Agency, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced the relocation of Al Seef,and Opened Jumeirah Beach marine stations to Al Fahidi and Festival City stations respectively to give way for development works by Meraas Company in the surroundings of the two stations.
"The RTA is always keen on delivering safe, smooth and express marine transit services to the community comprising residents, tourists, and visitors to Dubai from all over the globe. Our key objective is to offer convenient & enjoyable a transit experience on board these modes," said Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of RTA Public Transport Agency.
"In cooperation with the RTA, Meraas Holding will construct two alternative stations at Al Seef and Jumeirah Open Beach as part of the development works undertaken by the Company in these two areas; which will be a valuable addition to the real estate projects undertaken by the Company in these two tourist areas," he continued.
"The relocation of the two stations will be completed in less than three months and in accordance with the plan set by the RTA for the marine transport sector in Dubai. The plan caters to the needs & aspirations of marine transport users in Dubai along with the rising demand for the service, especially during the tourist season and the season of international events, conventions and exhibitions hosted by the Emirate," stated Al Ali.
The marine transit modes of the RTA, comprising Dubai Ferry, Water Bus, and the Water Taxi, are particularly appealing to Dubai's residents, visitors and tourists, thanks to the magnificent view of Dubai's beaches which are dotted by a series of superb tourists' landmarks such as The World Islands, Nakheel Islands and other tourist and deluxe hotels. The launch of this quality service will add a new momentum to the marine transit modes.
The marine transit modes, comprising abras, water bus, water taxi and Dubai Ferry, have lifted during the first half of this year 7,492,529 riders where the number of abra riders alone clocked 7,171,509 riders, whereas the Water Bus lifted 249,911 rider, Dubai Ferry served 56,568 riders and the Water Taxi offered services to 14,541 riders. Taxicabs operating in Dubai (Dubai Taxi and franchise taxi companies) have made 53,572,397 trips during the first six months of this year lifting 107,504,794 riders. The Dubai Taxi Corporation has lifted the biggest chunk of these riders by operating about 23,172,122 trips serving about 46,344,244 riders," explained Al Tayer.
