Dubai (Roads & Transport Authority) - Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has announced yesterday (Friday 11th April) the opening of a new further widening of Al Khail Road located at the intersection of Muscat and Al Khail streets up to Bu Kadrah Bridge in the outbound direction of the Emirates Road. These works are part of Phase III of Ras Al Khor Project linking the Business Bay Crossing with both Doha & Al Khail Road. The project is being constructed as part of two separate contracts at a cost exceeding one billion dirham

Engineer Nabeel Mohammed Saleh, Director of Roads Dep't at Traffic & Roads Agency, explained that traffic will be converted to the permanent part of the new widening of Al Khail Road as the conversion which has been made parallel to the existing road to serve traffic inbound from Muscat Road junction heading towards the Business Bay Crossing and Bu Kadreh Bridge in order to facilitate completion of the remaining works of the Business Bay Crossing Road and linking it with Al Khail Road.

In his review of the project details Nabeel said: "Construction works under the first contract of the project started in February 2006 at a cost exceeding 600 million dirham. It includes an extension of Ras Al Khor Crossing starting from Dubai International Airport Tunnel and passing through the Business Bay Crossing across Al Jaddaf at Bur Dubai. It also includes construction of a new road extending 5 km consisting of 5 lanes in each direction in addition to construction of 11 bridges".

Construction works under the second contract, which started in March 2006 at a cost of 450 million dirham, includes construction of several new roads with variable sectors ranging from two to five lanes extending 18 km. It also includes construction of 5 key bridges across the new Creek Canal to complete the link with the Business Bay Crossing and Doha & Al Khail Roads from one side, and Oud Maitha from another side.

Through Traffic & Roads Agency, RTA is following up construction of a series of vital projects to develop & improve roads network in Dubai. This is part of RTA strategy and incessant efforts to eliminate traffic congestion resulting from the rapid urban growth, huge investment projects and the need to cater for the requirements of demographic growth & expansion in the emirate to realize its vision of 'providing safe & smooth transport for all'.
