On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Kingdom's independence, starting 5 December and for two weeks, Royal Air Maroc is organizing an open house on the theme of Lockheed Constellation L749 used for air travel by His Majesty Mohammed V and the Royal Family during the first years of Morocco's independence.
The Constellation L749 was the greatest propelled aircraft ever built and the most highly sought after by aviation buffs and air museums all across the world. Its design, airworthiness, technology and performances, at the time of its construction in the 1950s, was far in advance for its time. The original version L649 made its inaugural flight in 1943 and the last model of the series, the L1649, came off the production lines in 1955.
Upon its creation in 1957, Royal Air Maroc owned two Lockheed Constellation L749s used for passenger transport to 1967 and for cargo to 1971. Since their withdrawal, given the historical import of this aircraft for Morocco and the symbol its conservation represents, Royal Air Maroc has done everything necessary to look after its maintenance and longevity.
By organizing the "Open House" days, Royal Air Maroc wishes to introduce to the generations of tomorrow this aircraft which is a part of the historical heritage of our country.
These days will be inaugurated Monday, 05 December 2005 at 3:00 p.m. on the tarmac at the RAM Academy maintenance center at Casa-Anfa airport.
