Four-month course open to both current students and executives
Reims Management School (RMS) has announced a pioneering certificate program in Islamic Banking and Finance, held in partnership with the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The program is taught in English and is unique in that it offers both current students on the MSc in Finance and International Banking program, as well as executives, the possibility to study the Islamic banking system and capital markets.
According to recent estimates, over 300 Islamic financial institutions operate in over 70 countries. The value of the assets of Islamic banks and assets managed on the basis of Islamic precepts is not far from a trillion dollars and represents an annual worldwide growth of 12 to 15%.
"The continued growth of this industry, even during the financial crisis, means there is currently a major skills shortage," said program coordinator Ghassen Bouslama. "To meet this demand, RMS has created the certificate in Islamic Banking and Finance."
Pedagogical goals
Participants on the certificate program will:
- Acquire an expert understanding of Islamic financial institutions (organisation, structure and regulation) as well as their economic, financial and legal environments.
- Master knowledge in key areas of Islamic capital markets, both theoretical and practical.
- Learn through an innovative pedagogical approach based on the academic and professional expertise of teachers and researchers from RMS and INCEIF.
The structure
The program will begin in January, 2012, and end four months later. Participants will complete 180 hours of classes divided into four modules, each of which lasts 45 hours. Course fees are 6,000 euros.
Modules:
- Sharia Rules in Financial Transactions
- Islamic Economics
- Deposit and Financing Operations of Islamic Banks
- Islamic Capital Market
A renowned teaching team
Coordinated by Ghassen Bouslama, finance professor at RMS, the certificate program will provide its participants with the fundamentals of Islamic Finance and its most recent real-world applications. Professionals and specialists from the Central Bank of Malaysia, the Paris and London Stock Exchanges and from the principal Islamic banks of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates will contribute their expertise throughout the course.
