Ayesha Mohammad Badiuzzaman, a Bangladeshi living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has been chosen as the recipient of this year's Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)-Medical University of Bahrain (MUB) International Scholarship.

Badiuzzaman faced some tough competition to win this prestigious scholarship, which is awarded each Academic Year to an exceptional student based on a very strict criteria, which includes high academic grades, a submission of a personal essay, and a challenging interview conducted on the university premises.

She now joins the university's 200-strong student body, which includes people of various nationalities and backgrounds. She can now look forward to a bright career in the field of medicine.

"Ayesha's academic grades were outstanding, and her performance at the interview was exceptional.  It is a pleasure for the University to award this prestigious Scholarship to a student of Ayesha's ability and qualities, and to give her the opportunity to begin her studies in this exciting field," said RCSI-MUB Medical Faculty Administrator Jo Hinrichsen.

"A Medical Degree from the MUB is well recognized by institutions all over the world for its quality. It gives graduates the highest academic qualifications and prepares them for the pursuit of postgraduate training in the discipline of their choice."

The MUB will commence its third year of medical education in October with an intake of 100 new students, including Badiuzzaman, who is greatly looking forward to this new phase of her life.

"It is a great honour for me to have been offered this prestigious international scholarship, and I am grateful to RCSI-Medical University of Bahrain to have been given this opportunity," said Badiuzzaman.

"I am pleased that I have been able to make my family and my school proud of this accomplishment, which I have achieved by the grace of Allah. I owe this to the effort that

they have invested in me through their guidance and prayer. I will do my best to prove myself worthy of their confidence in me and continue working hard to make the best of this great opportunity that I have been presented with."

The Medical University of Bahrain (MUB), a constituent of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RSCI), has signed a Public Relations agreement with FP7 Bahrain to handle its communications plan and activities.  RCSI-MUB, officially opened in Bahrain in October 2004 in the Seef District, provides healthcare education and training to world standards in Bahrain, drawing students from Bahrain, India, Italy, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and Yemen.   In March 2006, the foundation stone for the new RCSI-MUB campus in Muharraq has been jointly laid by His Highness the Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Mary Harney.
