Dubai: Peru is pleased to showcase its world-class design diversity at INDEX Dubai, the region’s leading exhibition for furniture, furnishing and lighting. The Peruvian Pavilion will present a number of exclusive home décor designers that together will reflect the diverse culture, history and materials that define the beautiful nation. This is the fifth time that Peru has participated in INDEX, with Peru the only Latin American country with a presence at the show in 2021.

For the past seven years, the UAE has been the leading export market for Peruvian home décor items, specifically in hand painted glass boxes and mirrors. The total value of the export category is an estimated $2.2m USD. The appeal of Peruvian designed items lies in the vast diversity of Peru, the variety of shapes and colors of its geography, the ancient Incan heritage, and the multiple expressions of its culture. Additionally, many artists rely on ancient techniques and hand-made production that yields limited edition, bespoke pieces. Therefore, Peruvian designers are able to strike a balance between tradition and innovation that appeals to a range of tastes and interior trends with consumers around the world, including those in the Middle East.

Commenting on the participation in the INDEX Dubai 2021, Alvaro Silva Santisteban, Director of the Trade, Tourism & Investment Office Peru in the UAE, notes I am pleased that the relationship between Peru and the UAE continues to go from strength to strength and that export figures continue to grow year-on-year. Our ancient culture and diverse history lead to the creation of wonderful decorative items, and the success of our home décor exports is a sector that we are keen to amplify in the UAE.”

He continues, “One of our primary challenges is the geographical distance between Peru and the Emirates, which means that we must maintain visibility and top of mind in the market. Platforms such as INDEX allow us to showcase our huge potential from a strategic hub within the Middle Eastern region and highlight the array of possibilities interior design companies can access via Peru.”
