Established in November 2001, the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC) is dedicated toward fostering an understanding of Autism in the wider Dubai community as well as providing specialist services for those with Autism and the people who care for them.
One of the ways in which the centre does this is through its classroom programmes for children aged between 4 and 20 years.
Edexcel and Pearson Education, both part of the Pearson Group, the world's largest education services provider, recently found themselves with surplus copies of various school books which they decided to donate to a good cause.
"We realised that this was the perfect opportunity for us to support the community." says Christine Ozden, Pearson Education's MEAC President. "Once the decision to donate the books was taken, various staff members got involved with researching local charities and getting the books ready for delivery."
It was the enthusiasm shown by the DAC staff which made it the clear choice to receive the books.
"As a non profit organisation, we always appreciate the community's involvement in our cause." states Hayula Mourad, Head of Communication at DAC. "We sincerely thank them for their help to improve our services."
"We were excited about giving them the books and they were equally excited to receive them." adds Mark Andrews, Edexcel's MENA Regional Director. "The books are being used both in the classroom and as resource materials in the library."
According to Lynn Chaar Rashid, Education Unit Coordinator at DAC, "Pearson Education and Edexcel's valuable contribution has had a great impact on enriching our teaching resources".
