Porsche Middle East and Africa takes homes three awards
Dubai. Twelve distinguished automotive journalists and experts from the Middle East region acknowledged Porsche cars with three top rankings at the recent Middle East Motor Awards (MEMA) ceremony on Thursday, 14th of October 2010.
Under the patronage of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, sporting ambassador for the Arab World, the MEMA ceremony took place at the Expo Centre Sharjah on the opening day of the 10th Sharjah International Automobile Show.
The first award for Porsche was handed over by Sulayem to an elated Deesch Papke, Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa, for the Cayman S, winner of the "Best Sports Car" category. The well established 320 hp, six-cylinder mid-engine sports car won against strong opposition such as the Audi TT RS and the BMW Z4.
Porsche's legendary 911 Turbo took the honours in the "Best Premium Sports Car" category. The 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with 500 hp and Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) delivers a top speed of 312 km/h and accelerates from 0-100km in only 3.7 seconds.
Last but certainly not least, Porsche's new four-door Gran Turismo, the Panamera, continued its success story. Against top rivals such as the Aston Martin Rapide and Maserati Quattroporte, the Panamera Turbo with its 4.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with an impressive 500 hp, emerged as the overall winner for the "Best Luxury Sports Saloon Car" and concluded Porsche's success story of this year's MEMA ceremony.
Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa, Deesch Papke, was overwhelmed after being called up to the stage three times and explained: "It is such an honour to receive three awards for our exceptional products from an admirable personality such as Mohammed Ben Sulayem. I sincerely thank the jury for nominating and choosing three of our cars as leaders in their respective categories. It is always been our philosophy that our models should be benchmarks in their segments and it is fantastic to see that the jury of experts have experienced our cars in the same way."
