MUSCAT -- Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO), the fully Omani-owned fuel marketing company, yesterday launched its latest prepaid fuel card, the Wayak, under the auspices of Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, secretary-general of the Tender Board.

The launch of the card reiterates the oil company's commitment to bringing products and services to Oman based on international expertise using local experience and knowledge.

Wayak, which means 'with you', is set to make a difference in the fuel card market of Oman.

Accepted in all Omanoil service stations across the country for purchasing fuel, lubricants and oil change services, it will have cross acceptance in the AGCC as well. The cardholder, who drives to the UAE, can avail of facilities at all Emarat and Emirates service stations there, thus assuring the largest network of service stations through a single card. Emirates has 240 service stations in the UAE.

Reinforcing the reasons behind the cross-acceptance features of their smart cards, the company's Managing Director, Mike Wilson, said: "Transportation between Oman and the UAE is increasing significantly. In the past, companies and individuals operating across borders have had significant problems administering fuel purchase using fuel cards at Omanoil sites in Oman and having to use cash at filling stations in the UAE. With the introduction of cross acceptance the whole process is now made simple and is far safer for both the driver and the fleet operator."

The Wayak card is a service set to give greater flexibility and freedom to individual drivers and small to medium fleets. "It enables to plan fuel budget and control monthly expenditure. Whether it's for personal use or corporate purposes, rest assured that fuel can be managed with ease," the company officials assert.

"We have been waiting for the right moment to launch the Wayak card. Now with cross acceptance at all Omanoil, Emarat and Emirates Service Station network, customers can see that we are offering services to exceed their expectations," said Sadiq Al Moosawi, Fuel Cards manager at Oman Oil.

Wayak is one of a range of smart cards from OOMCO, which already incorporates Ejaba, a corporate fleet management card, and the unique OOMCO/AAA fuel card and Oman Arab Bank (OAB) smartcard.

Unlike other pre-paid cards, Wayak has a one time recommended purchase price of RO1.500. With a minimum top-up fee of just RO1 and no maximum credit limit, one can determine how much financial freedom one needs from the card.
