Recently appointed Vice-Chancellor meets over 400 newly enrolled student
Abu Dhabi, 13 September 2012 - Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi started its 6th academic year with newly enrolled students and the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor meeting at the traditional Orientation Day on Thursday/today. The event provided an opportunity for the new students to be welcomed and integrated in the Sorbonne University community life . On this occasion, the programme "Ask Ali Live" was broadcasted from the university campus in Al Reem island to give students the opportunity to get better acquainted with life in the UAE.
Pr. Eric Fouache, Professor of physical geography and geo-archaeology and newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, presented Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi as an Emirati university that benefits from the 760 years of experience of the Sorbonne. In his remarks Pr Fouached said, "You have enrolled in a modern, multicultural and dynamic university. Everything is combined for your studies to be a privileged opportunity for intellectual and cultural improvement as well as a success, both academically and professionally. Our whole team, teachers together with administrative staff, is at your service to ensure your success."
At the Orientation session, students engaged with professors about individual requirements and course expectations. They also had the opportunity to find out more about the cultural and social life at the Sorbonne Reem island campus. Students and parents, also invited to the orientation, were taken on campus tour to get acquainted with different elements of the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi state-of-the-art campus and the numerous facilities including a residence, sports hall, library, cafeteria, music room, lectures theaters and auditorium.
Eissa Al Raeesi, the Head of Cultural and Student Services Department organizing the orientation week session said, "At Sorbonne Abu Dhabi we are commitmented to ensuring students have a successful academic year experience. With our orientation session first year students have the opportunity to interact with peers, former students, members of the academic faculty and university administrators is crucial for them to learn more and feel confident about the robust academic curriculum and the various extracurricular activities at Sorbonne Abu Dhabi."
In line with its moto "A bridge between civilizations", the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi has hosted the programme Ask Ali for all students to embrace the respect defining the Abu Dhabi values and culture and feel immersed in the emirati culture.
Since the 2006 opening, more than 200 graduates graduated from Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi with an internationally recognised and prestigious French Licence -bachelor- and more than 100 with a Master's degree. The French education system is renowned for its level of intellectual stimulation, rigorous and critical thinking and is an integral part of the Abu Dhabi vision to create a knowledge-based economy.
