Abu Dhabi: “Morocco in Abu Dhabi”, the annual event which sustains ties between the UAE and the Kingdom of Morocco, introducing UAE communities to Moroccan culture and heritage, is an impressive illustration of modernity mixed with a wealth oftraditional legacies. Adding a flair of evolution and modernity to the event is the Design and Youth Gallery; an innovative and creative space inspired by Moroccan traditional architecture and industries serving as a haven of artistic Moroccan expression for youth.

The Design and Youth Gallery is attracting excited visitors to "Morocco in Abu Dhabi". In the traditional industries that are the main themes of the Gallery, cultural heritage is strongly represented as a product of centuries of experiences, interaction, visions, and traditional values shared by the Kingdom’s people for thousands of years.

Mounia Miftah, designer and supervisor of one of the corners inside the Gallery, talks about sculptures that create an aesthetic aura by blending ancient and modern characteristics. She says: “My art pieces are displayed under the name Dar Miftah. The main attraction in this corner is what I call Fractional Pixels, such as a mural depicting sand dunes made from expensive stones similar to marble and alabaster and adorned with copper inscriptions. We created landscape images enhanced by pixalization, a modern-tech method of image-processing, and then mixed these images with harmonized rhythms and models. In the other corner lies “Glow”, a set of unique brass-work pieces.”

Mounia explained that pure geometrical characters are the main focus of the contemporary innovation approach to this display, taking patterns of illuminated cubic meteorites that emit light rays when they fall, to reflect magical shapes on ceiling and walls.

The furniture corner showcases the works of Jamil Bennani, respected Moroccan designer, which highlight creative genius in remarkable designs inspired by nature and individualized by modern touches of paint, wood-work, and brass-work that maintain traditional patterns. Other corners exhibit wood-framed mirrors and beautiful pieces of carved art on Araar wood, some of which are enhanced by copper-work details and others by gold paint, fiber glass, and brass-work.

Fashion has its own distinct charm in the Gallery. In a show combining graceful old and daring modern styles, women’s well-designed and attractive pieces speak of elegance. They are enhanced with modern accessories in belts, handbags and shoes, in addition to keeping up with the latest fashion trends, which can be seen in the tight sleeves and modern embroidery.

The Design and Youth Gallery embraces a diversity of worlds, approaches and artistic visions, enabling visitors to enjoy a unique journey to discover a creative and authentic Morocco.

"Morocco in Abu Dhabi 2019" runs until 30th April at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 3:00 to 9:00pm daily, and admission is free. This year’s edition includes cultural, artistic, fashion, culinary and historical activities, in addition to a unique antiques collection.
