A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Tokai University, Japan, and Effat University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on the 22nd of February, 2011. The Memorandum was signed by Prof. Kiyoshi Yamada who is the Vice- Chancellor of International Affairs at Tokai University, on behalf of the President of the university, and, Dr. Haifa Jamal Al Lail, President of Effat University. This is a move to further strengthen ties between the two academic institutions.

The Memorandum is significant, considering the reputation of Japan, especially in the field of Computer Science and Robotics. Moreover, emphasis was given on the exchange of faculty members and researchers, student exchange programs, aligning courses at Effat with Tokai University, collaborative research, benchmarking standards and so on.

In order to initiate the collaboration, visiting Prof. Yamamoto from Tokai is scheduled to come to Effat in mid-March. He is going to offer a short intensive workshop for two weeks in Robotics, combining theory and practice for Effat engineering and computer science students.
