Over 330 delegates from 17 countries and 86 companies participated in the "Lebanon International oil and gas Summit" (LIOG 2012), which was held in Beirut on 3 and 4 December 2012, under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Water and in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance. The event was able to become a real platform and a meeting ground for all stakeholders in the emerging energy sector in Lebanon. It was described as being a great success
Perfect timing:
The timing of the summit, which was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Water and in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance in Lebanon, has helped in making the event such a great success, as the world eyes turn towards Lebanon with the latest announcement on the appointment of the 6-member Petroleum Administration (PA), whose members attended the whole 2- day event.
This announcement also coincided with the intensified efforts to structure the country's energy sector and to launch the bids for explorations offshore, in the light of the encouraging results of the recent seismic surveys, which have put Lebanon on the regional and international energy map.
A Rich Agenda:
A large number of important strategic topics have been discussed at LIOG 2012 summit over eight sessions. They included:
- An update on the development and the structuring of the of Lebanese oil and gas sector
· Management of the revenues by both the private and public sectors
· Ways to provide the needed massive investments and the required guarantees
· Challenges and opportunities to launch the sector and then to enter major world markets
· Sustainable staffing for the oil and gas industry providing jobs to Lebanese
- The economic, geopolitical, social and environmental impacts of developing the sector
Over 35 speakers including international experts, senior Lebanese and international decision makers from both the public and private sectors discussed these topics, enriching the event with their insights and preparing the ground for the launch of this vibrant industry.
With a strong agenda and a high caliber of speakers, the summit has attracted the attention and support of a number of business leaders, as well as government and no- governmental organizations. Discussions covered the aspects of this important and vital sector is in terms of its huge economic and investment contribution at the national level.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister Mohammad Safadi, Minister of Finance, Lebanon; Mr. Cesar Abou Khalil, representing Eng. Gebran Bassil Lebanon's Minister of Energy and Water (MEW); Mr. Solon Kassinis, Director of the Energy Service, representing Mr. Neoklis Sylikiotis, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Cyprus, and Mrs. Angelina Eichhorst, EU Ambassador / Head of EU Delegation to Lebanon
The Summit was jointly organized by Global Events Partners Ltd. (GEP), a UK-Based company, and Lebanon-based "Planners and Partners s.a.l."
The exhibition:
The event included a trade exhibition which boasted over 15 top international and local Exploration and Production companies (E&Ps), operators, and service providers and attracted the attention of all participants, offering a chance of investors and interested parties to network, exchange ideas with the established companies.
B to B
A Business-to-Business meeting room and a VIP room were provided by the organizers to offer the perfect business environment. The rooms were reserved for a considerable number of meetings.
With a strong agenda and a crowd of high-caliber speakers, delegates, sponsors and supporters, the "Lebanon International oil and gas Summit" (LIOG 2012) successfully established itself as a milestone in the development of the emerging Oil and Gas Industry in Lebanon.
