UAE-based company to provide inspection technology and equipment to Rom Star for the Petronas oil company projects

LINSCAN, a leading UAE-based manufacturer of highly specialised inspection equipment and software, has recently announced the signing of a technology partnership agreement with Malaysia's Rom Star, a company specialised in providing in-line inspection services.

According to the agreement, LINSCAN will provide its renowned inspection technology and equipment to Rom Star, which was recently awarded a major contract by the Malaysian National Oil Company, Petronas for inspection of over 10,000 kilometres of its oil and gas pipeline.

Dr. Khaled El Chami, Managing Director, LINSCAN, said, "This technology partnership agreement with Rom Star underlines our capabilities and know-how in the highly specialised field of in-line inspection. With Rom Star being awarded the exclusive right to inspect the thousands of kilometres of oil and gas pipeline of Petronas, they require proven technology and equipments to efficiently execute the project. All the inspection equipment and software that we will be providing Rom Star has been fully researched, developed, designed and manufactured by LINSCAN, which means they can be assured of the highest levels of quality and performance."

Baharom Hamzah, Managing Director, Rom Star, said, "We are pleased to partner with LINSCAN for this major contract that we were awarded. Until now we have been using German inspection equipment, however, considering the scale and nature of our latest project, we identified a definite need for equipment that could offer greater performance and higher resolution output, and LINSCAN was a natural choice for us given their expertise in this domain."

The main purpose of In-Line inspection is to monitor possible deterioration (corrosion) of the condition of the pipe wall at regular intervals (3-5 years) without interrupting operations. Inline inspection provides information on inaccessible pipelines for the oil and gas industry. This method allows for a proactive approach towards maintaining the pipeline in a safe working condition throughout its lifespan.

"Inline inspection of pipelines is performed by in-line inspection tools equipped with high-resolution scanning systems, which LINSCAN specialises in. These measurement systems inspect the pipe wall from the inside. Normal flow in the oil or gas transmission pipeline moves the inspection vehicle from the start to the end. The high resolution scanning system collects pipe wall defect information with regards to size, location and nature of defect," highlighted El Chami.

LINSCAN's Universal Inspection tool became the industry benchmark when it was launched in 2004, as it could efficiently detect longitudinal and circumferential corrosion and cracks in pipelines.

LINSCAN is the only service company in the Middle East that designs, manufactures and services intelligent inspection tools and provides integrated technology solutions to all pipeline operators in the region. The company employs a highly qualified and experienced team of engineering, design, data analysis-interpretation, software development and operations professionals dedicated to the field of pipeline integrity management.
